A plane that was developed by the Lockheed "Skunk Works" Laboratory headed by Clarence "Kelly" Johnson. The Blackbird's official top speed was Mach 3+ but there is always an emphasis on the plus. It was the world's fastest plane until it was bested by the North American X-15 , which did not take off under it's own power.
